Year 3025: collectible card games are still going strong. Paper is long-gone and cards are now made of clear stellanium and nanotech components.

Across all planets of the Interstellar Commons, the most popular CCG is undoubtedly Dialectica Galactica, a game of dialectic battles on philosophical and ethical issues. Players take turns playing holographic cards depicting the most important historical figures of the Interstellar Commons: when a card is played, its hologram presents an argument in favor of its player, scoring points based on how rational and convincing it was.

Of the thousands Dialectica Galactica cards, the rarest one is the n°71 card of Poltborg The Peacebringer: when played, in addition to the base action, it asks the opponent a riddle and makes them skip turns until they can solve it.

This is a fictional card and collectible card game made for the Imaginary Cards Jam, but maybe a game like this will actually exist one day! My hopes are high.

Nutro grandi speranze.

This is delightful! Are the arguments pre-recorded or dynamic based on the situation? I can imagine some goofy scenarios where people quote the card’s hologram as if it were the historical figure itself, too.

Thank you! What I had in mind was the cards having some sort of advanced AI that takes the battle’s topic and the historical figure’s views and comes up with an argument that makes sense for both :)

I didn’t think about the chance of players thinking that they’re real quotes, that’s totally something I could see happening if the game existed today! But I hope future species playing Dialectica Galactica are smarter than us humans now ahah

Haha! Really cool system and card! By the way, ‘Dialéctica Galáctica’ sounds totally Spanish, it just needed the accent marks! :)

Thanks! It does sound Spanish, I hadn’t think about it ahahah maybe these aliens took it as a foundation for their own language lol
